The Federal High Court have refused Nnamdi Kanus Bail



The Nigerian Federal High Court on Thursday  refused the bail of Nnamdi Kanu who is believed to be the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nnamdi Kanu was arrested last year October, 2015.

The Federal High court of Nigeria have refused the release of Kanu and three others. The Federal High Court Judge Binta Nyako refused the application of Nnamdi Kanus lawyer "Ifeanyi Ejiofor" for bail.

The Federal high Court Judge, Nyako went further and said " alleged offences for which the defendants are standing trial are serious." and Nyako said that the suspects could face a punishment like Life imprisonment if convicted.

Following the bail refusal, Nyako ordered the case heard �almost immediately but not later than two months from now.�

Nnamdi Kalus Lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor told AFP that he would appeal.  We are surprised at the ruling of the court but we still have the right of appeal,� he said. The court is now adjourned until 13th December, 2016
to consider a prosecution request for the trial to be conducted behind closed doors to protect witnesses.


At least three judges, including in an ECOWAS court, have ordered Kanu�s release, but the Nigerian government refused to free him, saying he would jump bail. 

The first serous attempt for independence of Biafra caused a Civil war.

during the civil war which took place from 1967-1970 more than a million people died, which was mainly caused by starvation and disease.
