Well, it has arrived�probably the most-anticipated program for Intel Macs has made its way to Apples newest CPU platform, and you can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from Mac users (its only slightly louder than the mumbles of "dont do this to us again" from Adobe). But CS3 isnt just a small update�its chock full of enough new stuff thats Adobe feels its now worth branching out into two different versions: Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended. Dont worry though�all of the Photoshop CS2 features are in still the standard edition and both include Bridge CS3. But dont just take my word for it.
Youll notice whats not mentioned there: ImageReady. Adobe has axed it completely and has instead replaced it with Fireworks CS3, which is sold in a separate web suite package or as a standalone program. But dont worry�you dont need to get Fireworks to do simple animated GIFs since the ImageReady frame-based animation palette is incorporated into Photoshop CS3 Standard. Still, not everything from ImageReady made it in, and some beta users were already lamenting the loss of JavaScript rollovers for slices. It also seems that you cant open an animated GIF to show the animated frames anymore�you have to have the source PSD file.
